BUILD QUALITY

Godox has made significant strides in the quality of materials used in their products, aligning with industry standards set by competitors.

When compared to the Nikon SB910, the Godox flash feels equally robust and well-built. The on/off switch, while simple and convenient, has occasionally turned on accidentally when placed in my bag.

To mitigate this issue, I’ve started storing them upside down.

The buttons on the flash feel responsive, and the dial provides tactile feedback, making adjustments easy even in low-light conditions. I appreciate that the set button doesn’t rotate freely, ensuring stability during operation.

However, I’ve encountered difficulty raising the bounce card/wide-angle diffuser due to the lack of finger nails. I often need to use a coin or similar tool to assist in lifting it out.

I personally prefer the newer style hotshoe locking mechanism found in Canon 600 series flashes, which has been adopted by other brands like Yongnuo, Shanny, and Pixel. The Godox flash, unfortunately, uses the older screw-down type.

While it could be an isolated incident, one of my TT685 flashes didn’t securely lock onto my camera’s hotshoe despite tightening the locking screw.

This resulted in an incident where my camera fell during a wedding shoot. Fortunately, the lens hood absorbed most of the impact, and no lasting damage occurred.

However, this experience has shaken my trust in the TT685 for the time being.

After contacting my supplier, they promptly provided a replacement hotshoe that resolved the issue. As a result, my opinion on the build quality remains undecided.

It seems that while the build quality itself is satisfactory, there may be room for improvement in quality control processes.
